About Chloe...

Who am I?

"As a Biomedical Scientist, Chloe works with pathologists selecting and preparing tissue samples to support the diagnosis of patients. She also supports the organ transplantation co-coordination, to ensure that donated organs are suitable for transplantation.Chloe is a curious, creative and sympathetic individual. She is a ‘Coach’ type, which is important in her job working in a large multi-disciplinary team to achieve the goal of giving a patient the answer. The ‘Explorer’ side of Chloe is also a good fit for her role as, in order to reach the right answer, she has to have a wide range of knowledge and diverse expertise. "

What do I do?

"Typically, Chloe’s day will involve a lot of practical work – embedding tissue samples into wax blocks, taking thin sections to create microscope slides, and staining to look for things like bacteria. Did you know that Biomedical Scientists provide 70% of diagnostic results? Amazingly, Chloe and her team even help to diagnose patients who are in the middle of an operation or under anaesthetic! Chloe has also been involved in setting up Digital Pathology in the laboratory where she works. This is an innovative and new concept incorporated into a live hospital environment. "

How did I get here?

"Chloe’s route to becoming a Biomedical Scientist was not the conventional GCSE, A-Level and University route. She wanted to demonstrate that there are other ways in. She started her journey by taking a BTEC National Diploma in Health Studies, followed by a Science Foundation Year at Bradford University. Following this Chloe enrolled onto a 4-year sandwich BSc in Applied Biomedical Sciences. It was here where she worked in a laboratory for a year to complete her registration portfolio. As a Biomedical Scientist, Chloe’s starting salary was £21,178."

The life I live

"Outside of work, Chloe owns a 3-year-old Labrador called Roxy who she spends a lot of time exploring with outside. To switch off, Chloe enjoys listening to music, playing the Xbox or reading books. Chloe sees herself as the ‘go to’ person for biomedical scientists and their lab managers who want to introduce digital pathology into their laboratories. Her vision is for this to be accommodated for at a national level, but also an international level – why not?! "
