About Hana...
Who am I?
"Hana is a rail Track Design Engineer, she has an important role in calculating if a train can run safely on a track.Hana collects and analyses a lot of data to find out if trains can operate safely, and to ensure the designs meet Rail Standards, this fits well with her ‘Investigator’ and ‘Quality Controller’ types. Her role includes finding solutions and designs to overcome any problems and she needs to be resourceful, which is a good match for her ‘Developer’ type. Hana is reliable and helpful, important skills for working in her team."
What do I do?
"As a Track Design Engineer, Hana calculates safe distances for trains to operate on tracks, which is called ‘gauging’. She applies Railway Standards to accurately determine if trains can run safely. Sometimes she finds that new trains cannot operate safely on existing track and she needs to redesign the track. If you have travelled on trains across the UK, there is a good chance your train has been on tracks assessed or improved by Hana! The role requires Hana to collect and analyse a lot of data and investigate problems and find solutions. Part of her job includes training others in using company software and procedures. She even delivered some training in India!Hana loves to see her projects being installed, she enjoys being able to work on things that impact on people’s lives.Design and development engineers earn between £20,000 and £55,000 per year. "
How did I get here?
"Hana originally wanted to be a detective! She studied English Literature at university and ended up taking a very unusual route to her Engineering career!Hana took a job at TSP Projects after her degree, and discovered just how many engineering roles there were. When TSP Projects started recruiting people with no previous experience for technical entry roles she jumped at the opportunity, and was given a role as a Technician in the Track team. Hana worked and trained for 2 years, developing her technician skills. Her employer then offered her the opportunity to continue to work and have paid study, after which she was promoted to Engineer. She progressed from Technician, to Senior Technician, to Engineer in less than 5 years and is looking forward to progressing even further and learning more in the future! "
The life I live
"When Hana is not designing train tracks she likes to be crafty and particularly enjoys sewing and knitting. Her favourite type of sewing is dressmaking, and she likes to make her own clothes! She also likes reading and watching films, as you might expect from someone with an English Literature degree! "
