About Emma...
Who am I?
"Emma is a Facility Manager making sure that work done at a submarine dry dock is completed safely and to the correct standard.Emma is the Campaigner, Coach and Influencer types which she thinks are good matches with her job. She is a friendly, eloquent and out-going person who helps different teams work to required standards. She always undertakes roles where it is her responsibility to devise, communicate and train in processes and standards, which she thinks is a key role of a policy maker.Emma enjoys working with her team. They have a great team spirit and help each other in and out of work. Emma is keen to challenge herself, try new things and move out of her comfort zone."
What do I do?
"As a Facility Manager for a submarine dry dock, Emma is in charge of a team who work with all users of the dock to ensure that electricity, water, cranes and the structure of the dock perform as they should when needed by people fixing the submarine. She ensures that work done on-site is completed safely and to the correct standard. Each day, Emma checks in with her team to see if there are any new issues and has meetings with people from different teams to understand requirements. She also works on engineering queries or planning for dockside activities. "
How did I get here?
"Emma was encouraged by her A Level teacher to study Chemistry at university. She loved the course and enjoyed her time in the lab. In the 4th year she undertook a year in industry placement, and discovered that she wanted to work in large organisation, but possibly not with chemistry. She joined the Health Physics graduate scheme at Babcock in 2010 with a starting salary of £25,000, and has since worked in a range of departments, moving from Radiation Protection into Facility Management."
The life I live
"Emma enjoys spending time with her friends, getting out and about in the countryside or going for nights out and cocktails. To express hercreative side, she makes her own clothes, most recently a dress to wear to a friend’s wedding. She has also been doing a lot of DIY.Recently, Emma was able to present some research on radiation protection to a large international audience at a conference in Geneva, which she found to be a great experience."
