Criminal intelligence analyst
Have you ever wanted to work for MI5, or MI6? This can be where criminal intelligence analysts work. They use data to detect and prevent crime and protect UK security. Day-to-day there could be collecting data, studying trends in the data to build up a bigger picture, or monitor the behaviour of individuals or groups. They need to have good analytical skills to investigate the data, and have a high attention to detail. Legal knowledge could be important as they may have to act as an expert witness in court. For some roles you will need to have completed a degree, in any subject. From here, you could apply through the Civil Service Fast Stream. GCHQ also run higher apprenticeships in cyber security and software engineering, for which you'll need at least 5 GCSEs at grades 9-4, and qualifications equivalent to A level. Criminal intelligence analysts earn between £20,000 and £52,000.
