Cartographer

Cartographers get information about the geography of an area, and use this to design maps, charts and pictures. To become a cartographer, you can take a degree in a related subject such as geography, earth sciences or oceanography. Or, you could find work as a trainee cartographic technician and work your way up. A Levels in geography, art and design, maths or computing would be really useful. Cartographers need to be good with computers as they can spend a lot of time using specialist computer software, and designing digital maps. For cartographers, a good knowledge of geography and being good at solving problems is important as they may have to check maps are accurate or analyse data. They can earn between £18,000-£45,000.
