About Kelly-Marie...
Who am I?
"I feel that the personality types fit me well. I am a campaigner and co-ordinator, and therefore have a lot of ideas which is balanced well by being organised, this is essential in engineering to be able to solve a problem in a short amount of time. As an influencer, I work well with others. I'm helpful and patient - this is essential when sharing my ideas and showing someone new ways to do work. To solve problems I often have to think outside of the problem and look for information outside of work."
What do I do?
"I review engineering processes to see if I can improve them. A process is the steps used by engineers to guide them when solving problems. I look at the process to see if the steps can be simplified, or if there is a better way the engineers can solve the problem. Sometimes I need to design a brand new process."
How did I get here?
"I became an engineer fairly late. I started working as a technical administrator in construction, moving through to oil and gas, and then into nuclear fusion. I was inspired by the people I worked with, seeing them work with others to solve problemsl, and this made me want to become an engineer. To do this I studied engineering part-time as a mature student, while working full-time. I became an Improvement Engineer by demonstrating my ability to solve a problem."
The life I live
"I enjoy walking in nature, art, movies, and rock music! "
My typical day
"A typical day involves answering emails, participating in meetings (online or in-person), and trying to understand a problem! When I have a good grasp of the problem, I try and draw out the solution using a flow chart (a picture showing all the steps and what direction to go in - you may have seen similar in a magazine!) When the solution is more defined, I then write the detail behind each step. Often, I will go back and change parts of my solution before presenting to my leader."
