About Nadia...

Who am I?

"Others have described me as a people person and this is true as I like to work in teams and for everyone to feel successful in what ever problem they are solving. My top role from the survey was ‘coach’ and this fits with the kind of role I do. Aside from scientific aspects of my role, I spend about 30% of my time on people management. Another top role was 'communicator' which again fits well with what I do. On a daily basis I have to communicate information on a one to one basis or stand in front of a room full of people and present something. It takes some practice to find the best way to communicate and you have to adapt your style depending on the situation or the audience. "

What do I do?

"I manage a testing laboratory on a manufacturing site which makes medicines. My job involves management of people, problem solving, team activities, improvements to how we do things, and strategic thinking for the future.I most enjoy working with other passionate people and being part of a chain of activity which ultimately leads to people getting the medicines they need. "

How did I get here?

"I was always encouraged to work hard by my parents and if I did I would reap the rewards in the future. I am pleased they helped instil determination in me because it has helped with all aspects of life. I studied Biology at A Level and then Biomedical Science at university which was a brilliant mixture of Biology, Chemistry, Pharmacology, and study of diseases. This degree also kept my option open for what I wanted to do after university. I see myself continuing to work in teams and jobs that help others through some means. "

The life I live

"I live in a very green area of the north east of England. I like spending time outdoors and on my hobbies like music, dancing and learning languages. "

My typical day

"A typical day would start by me walking around each of the different labs to understand if there are any issues to tackle for that day. Then I attend a standard set of meetings to ensure that any important information is communicated to the site leaders. I spend the afternoons working on various things like problem-solving, working with my team on the progress of improvement projects, making sure processes are being followed and that the laboratory is running smoothly and safely. I also think about how each team is functioning and plan out where resource needs to go to ensure each lab runs smoothly.I love my job because I work with so many people that are passionate about science. I also learn new things every day from other people in the lab. The thing that matters most to me is that we have hardworking people who are really important in making sure that sick people get the medicines that they need."

My qualifications

"I took double science which counted as two of my GCSEs in which I received an A. Maths was also important and useful now and I also received an A. I then took Biology as my science at A level and received a B, then went onto study Biomedical Science and received a first class honours degree. "
