Mechanical Engineer
Mechanical engineers work in many different industries. They could be designing and manufacturing components for high tech equipment, making sure that production processes are fully working, or checking products are made to exact standards. They may be installing and fitting equipment and products on site, or maintaining and servicing equipment. Mechanical Engineers work on defence systems, transportation, energy supplies and communications equipment - installing offshore wind farms, designing and testing prosthetic limbs, or supporting a production line making high performance cars, food or beauty products. Mechanical engineers turn design ideas into reality drawing and designing technical plans using software systems, or producing data and technical information to support ideas and projects. Mechanical engineering technicians are likely to be more hands on and practical, servicing and installing equipment, solving problems and being creative in order to keep the job working and maintain safety. Creative skills and being good with numbers would be useful for this role. Mechanical Engineers will make us of their maths qualifications for designing, monitoring and analysis. Good English qualifications and communications skills are really useful to help to explain technical ideas and information to colleagues and teams. Mechanical Engineers can earn from £22,000 to £55,000 per year.
